Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited has announced scheduled maintenance on one of its submarine cables to fix a fault, warning of possible internet service degradation for users.

According to the company, the repair work—being carried out by an international cable consortium—will begin on April 14 and continue until April 20, 2026.

In a statement shared on X, PTCL said the maintenance activity is aimed at resolving a fault in the submarine cable system.

The company noted that customers may experience slower internet speeds, particularly during evening hours, while the work is underway.

PTCL also apologised for the inconvenience caused to users during the maintenance period.

The development comes days after telecom operators announced the rollout of 5G services in selected areas following the allocation of spectrum licences at a ceremony in Islamabad attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Earlier this year, the government completed a spectrum auction in Islamabad, selling 480 megahertz (MHz) for $507 million, with three operators competing for the 2,600MHz band, a key frequency range for 5G services.
