WhatsApp, the widely-used messaging service with over 2 billion users, is currently experiencing a global outage, causing connectivity issues for users worldwide.

Reports of difficulties connecting to WhatsApp began surfacing across multiple countries around 2PM ET today, with many users encountering the "connecting" message indefinitely. This outage, affecting the Meta-owned messaging platform, appears to be significant in scale.

Notably, WhatsApp does not maintain its own status page, nor is it listed on Meta's service status platform. While users can still compose messages, they will remain undelivered until WhatsApp restores its service.

Meanwhile, other Meta-owned platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Threads are not reporting any issues on their status pages. However, numerous users have reported encountering problems viewing recent posts or creating new content on these platforms.

This latest WhatsApp outage follows closely on the heels of a recent massive Meta outage, which temporarily disabled access to Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and Threads. Although that outage lasted for approximately two hours, WhatsApp remained unaffected. It is uncommon for WhatsApp to experience such disruptions, with the last significant outage occurring in 2022, when the service was offline for two hours.
