WhatsApp is rolling out an update aimed at strengthening privacy controls for its Status feature, with a new option currently being tested in the Android beta version of the messaging app.
According to reports, the update introduces an “Audience” option within the Status menu, allowing users to review and manage who can view their Status updates and whether their posts can be reshared.
The feature is designed to help users easily confirm their privacy settings before posting a Status. Previously, users had to rely on memory to recall which contacts were allowed or restricted from viewing their Status.
Through the new menu, users can choose from options such as “My Contacts,” “Only Share With,” and “Except,” and can also add or remove specific contacts from each category.
As the feature is currently limited to the Android beta version, WhatsApp has not announced when it will be made available to all users on the stable release.
The move reflects WhatsApp’s continued efforts to enhance user control over content visibility and privacy across its platform.
