WhatsApp is working on a new sticker feature similar to one already available on its sister platform, Instagram, as part of an upcoming update currently available exclusively for beta testers.
According to WABetaInfo, the upcoming feature will bring interactive stickers to Meta's messaging app, providing users with a creative method to engage through status updates.
The "Add Yours" sticker for status updates will enable users to create prompts or challenges that encourage their contacts to share their own responses.
This sticker feature closely resembles the "Add Yours" sticker available in Meta's photo and video sharing app, Instagram, allowing users to set a theme, question, or activity that inspires others to join in by posting their own status updates.
For instance, users might prompt their contacts to post a photo of their pet as a status update, with their contacts able to tap the sticker and share their own related updates.
However, there are slight differences between the two features.
In contrast to the Instagram sticker, the WhatsApp version will prioritize user privacy.
When a user views a status update featuring the "Add Yours" sticker and chooses to join in by sharing their content, the audience of the original poster will not see who started the interaction or what other contributions were made.
The new sticker will facilitate more engaging interactions with contacts beyond basic text or image updates, encouraging more dynamic communication.
By utilizing the "Add Yours" sticker, individuals will have the opportunity to start trends, share personal anecdotes, or simply add a touch of fun and spontaneity to their experience in the app.
Although this feature is still in development and will be rolled out in a future update, users who have the beta version of the app can check it out by downloading the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.23.21, available on the Google Play Store.
