WhatsApp is testing two new features aimed at making the messaging platform easier and more efficient to use. Both features have been rolled out to the beta version of the app for Android devices, where testing is currently underway.

According to tech trackers monitoring the beta release, one of the features relates to Status updates, while the other is designed to improve group chat functionality.

The first feature introduces AI-powered editing tools for Status updates. These tools, based on Meta’s artificial intelligence technology, appear in place of the existing “Effects” or filters button.

Testers say the tools will allow users to modify images through AI, such as adding new objects, removing backgrounds or animating photos. “Users will be able to transform images with the help of AI,” one testing note observed.

The second feature focuses on improving group conversations by allowing users to access recent message history before they joined a group.

Under the new system, group admins can enable an option that lets newcomers view messages posted up to 24 hours prior to their joining.

Testers said the feature will make it easier for new members to “catch up on conversations without requiring admins to forward messages manually.”
