Like many other parts of Karachi, the Munawar Chowrangi area in Gulistan-e-Jauhar is facing severe disruption due to ongoing infrastructure work and poor maintenance.
As part of its civic initiative “Karachi Aisa Nahi Tha”, the Dialogue Pakistan team visited the site to highlight public concerns regarding the under-construction underpass.
Residents and commuters expressed frustration over prolonged delays and worsening road conditions, saying the project has made daily travel increasingly difficult.
Speaking to Dialogue Pakistan, a motorist said the situation has “completely ruined the area”, adding that nearby University Road is also in poor condition. “We are facing serious difficulties. People have fallen here due to the uneven roads, yet no one seems to be paying attention,” he said.
Some residents also voiced political criticism, blaming local authorities for the deteriorating conditions. Meanwhile, an elderly citizen urged officials to prioritise public service and accountability.
“Those in power should fear God and serve the people, because everyone will be held accountable,” he said.
It is worth noting that Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah had set a one-month deadline on March 1 for the completion of the project.
However, residents say there has been little visible progress, and the work does not appear to be nearing completion.
