Karachi: More than 50 donkeys participated in a donkey cart race held in Karachi as part of Independence Day celebrations.

The race began at Tower and concluded at the Commissioner House, with the donkey named Koel emerging as the winner.

Karachi Commissioner said the administration had made extensive efforts to ensure the successful organization of the donkey cart race. He added that the event could not have been successfully conducted without the assistance of the police.

“Koel secured first position in today’s race,” the Karachi Commissioner said.

The Additional Inspector General (AIG) said he had been watching donkey races in Karachi since childhood. “I have been watching this race since I was born in Keamari,” he said.

He noted that donkey races have become less frequent in recent years and said efforts were needed to revive and promote the tradition.

“Donkey racing is part of Karachi’s culture, and Lyari is the heart of Karachi,” the AIG said.

He also stressed the need for sponsors to support and organize such large-scale cultural events.
