A judicial magistrate in Karachi sent an elderly man to jail on judicial remand in a case pertaining to the murder case of his wife after he refused to record confessional statement.
During proceedings at the Judicial Magistrate (West) court, suspect Asghar denied the statement allegedly made before police and claimed that investigators had pressured him to confess.
According to the accused, police assured him that no one else would be implicated in the case and that he would eventually be released if he admitted to the crime. He further alleged that he was subjected to pressure at the police station and was not in a normal state of mind at the time.
The suspect told the court that he did not know how the victim had been killed and maintained that he was mentally disturbed when the incident occurred. He rejected the police version of events and refused to record a confessional statement before the magistrate.
After hearing the accused's position, the court rejected the investigating officer's request to record the confession and remanded the suspect to judicial custody.
