In a significant boost for Pakistan’s aviation industry, the government has sharply reduced jet fuel prices, a step that could lower airline operating expenses and eventually translate into cheaper airfares for travelers.

According to official sources, the price of jet fuel for commercial aircraft has been reduced by Rs48.80 per litre, bringing the new rate to Rs283.52 per litre.

The reduction is expected to provide considerable financial relief to airlines and aviation companies that have been dealing with high operational costs driven by fluctuating fuel prices.

Officials noted that the latest cut may pave the way for lower ticket prices on both domestic and international routes, although no airline has yet announced fare reductions.

Sources also revealed that jet fuel prices have now fallen by a total of Rs283 per litre from their peak level of Rs517 per litre, which was recorded during periods of regional tensions and conflict-related uncertainty. Prior to the Middle East conflict, jet fuel was priced at Rs188 per litre on February 28.

Industry experts believe the reduction will help ease financial pressures on airlines while supporting the continued recovery and expansion of Pakistan’s aviation sector.

Separately, the federal government announced a major reduction in petroleum prices on Friday, decreasing both petrol and high-speed diesel by Rs22 per litre.

Earlier, Shehbaz Sharif had pledged that any available fiscal space would be used to provide relief to the public. Officials say that promise has now been fulfilled, with the latest fuel price cuts being presented as an Eidul Azha gift for citizens.

The prime minister also highlighted that fuel prices had been reduced the previous week as well, reaffirming the government’s commitment to reducing the financial burden on consumers.
