An Islamabad court on Friday sent Hassan Zahid to jail on judicial remand in a case pertaining to the alleged abduction of social media influencer Samiya Hijab.

Zahid was presented before Judicial Magistrate Yasir Mahmood, where police requested a five-day physical remand to complete investigation. The court, however, rejected the plea and instead ordered Zahid to be sent to jail on judicial remand.

The development comes days after the same court dismissed Zahid’s bail application. He is currently facing two cases registered at the Shalimar Police Station.

Hijab, who has nearly 850,000 followers on Instagram and is also active on TikTok, has accused Zahid, with whom she was previously in a relationship, of harassing her for months with threats and pressure to marry him.

In a video shared on Instagram, she alleged that Zahid appeared outside her home, snatched her mobile phone, and tried to force her into his car. “My mother was ill, my brother wasn’t home. When I stepped outside, he snatched my mobile, sat in his car, and forced me in as well,” she said.

The influencer had appealed to Islamabad Inspector General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi for protection and lauded police for registering her complaint and taking swift action.
