Imaan Mazari and husband, Hadi Ali Chatta arrested from Serena Chowk,Islamabad

Islamabad police on Friday arrested lawyer and rights activist Imaan Mazari and her husband, advocate Hadi Ali Chattha, near the underpass outside Serena Hotel in Islamabad.

Shireen Mazari, mother of Imaan Mazari, posted on X that her daughter and son-in-law, Hadi Ali Chatta, were arrested without an FIR.

She added that both were taken in separate vehicles to unknown locations.

Imaan Mazari and husband Hadi Ali Chatta were arrested from Serena Chowk, Islamabad, while they were heading to the Islamabad High Court.

Journalists at the scene claimed that police officers forcibly confiscated their mobile phones while they were covering the arrests.

At the same time, Wajid Gilani, President of the Islamabad High Court Bar, criticized the police for employing excessive force during the operation.

“They assaulted us, broke the windows of our vehicle, and then arrested Imaan Mazari and Hadi Chatha,” Gilani said, adding that even the bar secretary was subjected to violence.

The Islamabad High Court on Wednesday granted two-day protective bail to human rights lawyer Imaan Mazari and her husband, advocate Hadi Ali Chattha, in a newly surfaced case dating back to July 2025, barring their arrest during this period.
