The preliminary report on the death of the woman assaulted by a railway police officer on a moving train revealed conflicting accounts from eyewitnesses and the police.
According to the initial report from rescue personnel, the woman reportedly jumped from the moving train on April 8th at 6:30 am near Chani Goth railway station and died on the spot.
The rescue staff stated that the woman was going from Karachi to Faisalabad along with the children.
The children who were with the woman at the time of the incident are reported to have said she was possessed by demons. Despite attempts by bystanders to intervene, she jumped from the train window.
However, the police report contradicts the status of the officer involved. According to the police, Mir Hassan received bail on April 13, the day after his arrest, and is currently stationed at the Police Lines area in Karachi.
In another statement, police stated that Mir Hasan has been suspended and a case has been registered against him.
The deceased woman, identified as Maryam, belonged to Chak 648 GB in Jaranwala. According to her brother, Afzal, she left Karachi by Millat Express on April 7th.
After her death on April 8th, believed to be a train accident at the time, she was buried in the village on April 9th.
However, after a video showing the physical assault by the policeman surfaced on social media, Afzal alleged the officer tortured and killed his sister before throwing her body onto the tracks.
According to the woman's nephew, Ghalib Hammad, "I was with my aunt at the time. She was reciting loudly, and the policeman objected to the noise and became violent. He dropped us off at the next station but took my aunt away with him."
