A teenager in Karachi's Gulshan-e-Maymar area died after consuming a bottle of vinegar to win a bet of Rs100, it emerged on Thursday.

The 11-year-old boy was identified as Shah Muhammad. He was rushed to the hospital after his condition worsened, where he passed away.

The deceased was a resident of Afghan Basti in Gulshan-e-Maymar.

While speaking to the media at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, his teacher, Hamidullah, stated that Shah Muhammad made a bet with a shopkeeper to drink a bottle of vinegar for Rs100 only.

According to the teacher, the victim drank a cold after winning a bet from the shopkeeper.

Upon arriving home, the 11-year-old started vomiting, he added.

On the other hand, the police said that the shopkeeper was detained in the case.

Vinegar is highly acidic and is not meant to be consumed in big amounts. It can damage your teeth, throat, and even the lining of your stomach. This strong acid can cause ulcers in your throat and esophagus, and cause stomach ache and constant vomiting.

Even smaller amounts, if consumed regularly, can irritate your throat.
