Karachi's Tipu Sultan police made significant headway by arresting an injured robber who had looted a delivery rider in the PECHS area two days ago.

The mugging incident involving the delivery rider had previously gone viral on social media, sparking widespread outrage.

Talking to Dialogue Pakistan, the delivery rider said he was the victim of that incident, when two individuals approached him.

"They showed me a weapon and took my mobile phone and the cash I had in my wallet, which was Rs3,500. They also took my earbuds and the order I was supposed to deliver to a customer. In short, they left me with nothing at that moment."

The rider further said, as they were leaving, the person sitting on the motorcycle told the other to “kill him.” When I heard that, I felt as though everything was over and that it was my last day.

I pleaded with them, saying I had already given them everything they wanted—my phone and money—and asked them to spare my life. They then noticed CCTV cameras and fled immediately.

For the next three to four days, the police remained in contact with me. Today, they called me again and asked me to come to the station to identify the suspect, he added.

The rider said he went to the station and identified the suspect. "

"I confirmed that he was indeed the one who had been riding the motorcycle and had told the other to kill me. After the identification, since some of my belongings had not yet been recovered, SSP Nida personally gave me some cash. My mobile phone has still not been recovered, and I am waiting for it so that I can resume my work. It has been three to four days, and I have not been able to return to work. I hope that my phone will be recovered soon."

ASP Nida Junaid talking to Dialogue Pakistan said that following this incident, strict measures were taken on the instructions of the DIG East and SSP East.

Effective patrolling and checkpoints were established. During this process, we attempted to stop a suspicious individual. A police encounter took place, and the individual was arrested in an injured condition.

Upon identification, it was revealed that he was the main suspect in the Foodpanda robbery case. It also emerged that he was involved in another earlier incident in the Mahmoodabad area, where a woman was targeted while she was sitting in a van, she said.

The suspect was identified through technical means and local intelligence, with significant assistance from CCTV footage, which enabled proper facial recognition and further investigative steps. An accomplice of the suspect was also seen in this incident and in the earlier one, and efforts are underway to apprehend him.

The police are hopeful that he will soon be arrested, enabling further recoveries and progress in the case.
