Karachi police lodge first FIR over theft of manhole cover; one man arrested

Following the tragic death of three-year-old Ibrahim in an uncovered manhole near Nipa, Karachi police have launched a crackdown on thieves stealing manhole covers in the city.

The Baghdadi police arrested a man, who was caught red-handed while stealing a manhole cover, and registered the first FIR over the theft of manhole covers.

According to police officials, a call was received on the Madadgar-15 helpline reporting that a manhole cover was being stolen near Ahmed Shah Bukhari Road.

Police immediately reached the location and apprehended a suspect identified as Asif, recovering the stolen cover from his possession.

Officials said that action will be taken not only against those stealing the covers but also those buying or dealing in them.

Despite the heightened alert, many roads and even areas outside hospitals continue to have open manholes, posing a serious danger to the public.
