Lightning strikes in K-P leave two children dead, over 20 injured in separate incidents

At least two children died, while more than 20 people sustained injuries in different cases of lightning strike in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday, officials reported.
In Khyber district, lightning hit a house in the Zakhak Hail Bazaar locality of Landi Kotal, leaving two children dead and sustaining injuries to some other family members.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Azmat Wali of Landi Kotal Police Station confirmed the deaths, saying that lightning hit a residential place early in the morning. According to him, two children lost their lives, while two others got injured in the incident.
The policeman told that the residence was also damaged due to the lightning strike and all the injured persons belonged to the same family. The locals conducted rescue operation and took the injured to a hospital for treatment purposes, while one of the injured was in serious condition.
The police and concerned departments were making assessment of the damages along with investigating other aspects of the accident, while sympathies were being conveyed to the deceased family.
In another case of lightning strike, a women's seminary was hit in the Wahri locality of Upper Dir district, leaving 20 female students injured.
Wahri Assistant Commissioner Aftab Alam said the incident occurred while classes were underway at the seminary, where around 250 girls were enrolled.
He said all the injured students were shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Wahri for treatment, adding that they were reported to be out of danger.
