As Eid al-Adha approaches and demand for sacrificial animals increases, incidents of related criminal activity have also risen across the country.

In Lahore, police have arrested a key operative of a network involved in purchasing sacrificial animals using counterfeit currency in the Shahdara Town area. According to officials, the suspect was exploiting unsuspecting livestock traders during the Eid season.

The SP City stated that cases were registered at Shahdara and Shahdara Town police stations following multiple complaints.

A special team, led by an Assistant Superintendent of Police, was formed and succeeded in arresting the suspect within 12 hours.

Investigations revealed that the accused purchased goats from traders in Shahdara and Shahdara Town and escaped after paying with fake currency notes.

The suspect reportedly acted quickly during transactions, placing cash directly into sellers’ pockets to avoid detection.

The fraud came to light later when the victims reached the market and discovered the notes were counterfeit.

Police further stated that modern technology and CCTV footage were used to trace and apprehend the suspect, identified as Asad.

He allegedly procured counterfeit currency from Peshawar through a wider network.

The suspect has been handed over to investigation authorities and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for further inquiry.
