Customs officials at Allama Iqbal International Airport recently intercepted a smuggling attempt involving 37 iPhones, valued at approximately Rs 11.5 million.

The operation, carried out by a team led by Assistant Collector Customs Simrah, Superintendent Shahid Ali, and overseen by Collector Customs Airports Tayyeba Kayani, followed intelligence provided by the Collector’s office.

The customs team detained Umer Farooq, a passenger arriving on a Fly Jinnah flight from Sharjah, after discovering the concealed smartphones in his luggage.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the phones were intended for the black market, where they could be sold at inflated prices due to the evasion of customs duties and taxes.

In a statement, Tayyeba Kayani praised her team’s prompt and efficient response, underscoring the operation as a demonstration of the department’s ongoing commitment to curbing smuggling and safeguarding Pakistan’s economic interests.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify any additional individuals involved in the smuggling network.
