Karachi's police chief, Javed Alam Odho, announced the suspension of nine police officers, including two women, on Monday for creating TikTok videos while in uniform.

In addition to the suspensions, the police chief has ordered the withholding of annual increments and bonuses for these individuals.

The suspended officers include Constable Majid Ali, Nauman Khan, Nauman Sajjad, Sepoy Ahmad Ali, Huzafa, Qasim, and Zeeshan, while the female officers are Sonya and Meenema.

These officers were found to have shared videos on social media in which they were dancing. The police chief had previously issued a strict directive to all personnel to refrain from producing unnecessary videos to avoid disciplinary measures.

A newly established social media unit within the Karachi police has intensified its oversight of all content shared across social media platforms.

Details indicate that this social media unit will take decisive action against individuals disseminating unverified or false information.

Amjad Hussain, the head of the social media team, stated that prompt action will be taken based on credible information, while those sharing false content will face repercussions under cyber-crime legislation.

He also mentioned that a verification process for all posts is currently in progress, and strict measures will be enforced against offenders.

The police have urged the public to refrain from sharing unverified or misleading information on social media.
