Lawyer and human rights activist Jibran Nasir criticised the Sindh government and Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab for mismanagement and alleged political manipulation.

Speaking in a podcast, he highlighted issues like the commercialisation of public spaces, poor urban planning, and civic failures in Karachi. Nasir emphasised corruption, water theft, and lack of accountability, calling the system “useless” for the city.

He stated that giving someone your vote only encourages the government to work against them, citing PTI’s treatment: ‘The party was banned, labeled terrorists, and 35 UC chairmen were arrested and threatened.’”

Jibran highlighted hypocrisy in local politics, saying, “Murtaza Wahab, when he won the election, was doing sit-ups because he was too happy.”  Despite losing the election, Wahab was declared the winner and appointed as the Mayor of Karachi due to rigging.

He criticised the commercialisation of public spaces: “Every open green space, every park is now a paddle court. Community parks are only paddle courts, 8,000 per hour. If you can pay, come. What about the lower-class people? Affordable hangouts for them, what do they have now?”

He also condemned the mistreatment of animals and urban planning: “The Rano Bear was kept in such poor condition just for entertainment. Look at the seaside, there are only restaurants and buildings. Nothing for the lower class.”

Jibran expressed disappointment in political leadership: “The people we are looking up to for hopes have told us that they are not responsible for us. We don’t matter to them.”

He further criticised basic civic failures: “A city where the government can’t even give us unpolluted air or proper water, what else should we accept? We are only slaves to earn for them, pay taxes, and be their right hand, pay challans, pay bribes, and what not.”

Regarding water management, he said, “The water is so toxic. 30% of the water is stolen. Who is the head of the tanker mafia? Don’t they know? The 30% stolen water obviously goes to the tanker mafia.”

Summing up, he said, “The system is useless. There is no one for Karachi.”
