The surge in street crimes has instilled fear and insecurity among Karachi's citizens, as robbers continue to commit crimes with impunity.

Almost 74 people have been killed by armed dacoits for resisting robbery in different areas of the metropolis in six months of the ongoing year, police said on Tuesday.

In the latest killing, a milk seller was shot dead by bandits over robbery resistance in Qauidabad area of the port city.

The deceased, identified as 37-year-old Baqar, was hit with three bullets, which proved fatal for him.

A day earlier, 18-year-old Bismillah was gunned down by armed dacoits in Karachi's Bhains colony.

In another incident, a 27-year-old mechanical engineer and Hafiz Quran,  Itteqa Moeen, was shot dead during a robbery in Karachi's Gulshan-e-Iqbal on June 1.

On the other hand, the city's police have completely failed to curb street crime as the law enforcers are providing shelter to the criminals, sources said.

More than 250 Karachiites were shot dead and 1,052 others were wounded by street criminals between 2022 and 2024, according to police sources.

Senior police officials attribute the increase in violent street crimes to skyrocketing inflation and growing economic difficulties.
