PTI decries reports of Bushra Bibi's 'sudden, secret' hospital visit

In this regard, the PTI in a statement on Thursday expressed its disappointment in connection with information about the “sudden and secret transfer” of Mrs. Bushra Bibi to the hospital and subsequent return to the jail from there.

"The entire case involves a lot of mystery, ambiguity, secrecy, and violation of human rights," the party stated.

As it was reported in the media late Wednesday night, allegedly Mrs. Bushra Bibi, who is currently held at Adiala jail, has been taken to the hospital for a follow-up checkup of her eyesight under high-level security.

Last month, Mrs. Bushra Bibi has undergone an eye surgery at a hospital in Rawalpindi. In accordance with the information provided by the jail authorities, it has been found out that retinal detachment in the right eye was discovered for Mrs. Bushra Bibi.

"Why has the government not kept the nation in the picture about her health condition if it really deteriorated to the extent that it required urgent measures to take her to the hospital during the night time?" asked the PTI.

"Why has she been transferred to that hospital? What kind of examination did she undergo? Who examined her and why she was later sent back to the jail?"

"Bushra Bibi has been living under solitary confinement, mental pressure, and cruel treatment for many months now, while serious issues relating to her health have time and again been highlighted. However, withholding her right to consult her own doctors, preventing her from meeting her family members, and keeping her medical history secret are clearly indications of something that the government is trying to keep hidden from her relatives and the general public," the political party stated.

"It is unfortunate that a woman prisoner who happens to be the wife of a former Prime Minister has been denied even basic human and medical rights," the political party stated.

It was further demanded by the political party that if there was nothing to hide, then a transparent health report of Bushra Bibi should be made available to her family members and the people of Pakistan."
