Rescue 1122 saves stranded puppies amid Punjab floods in viral operation

Rescue 1122 personnel earned widespread praise on Thursday for their heroic rescue of three puppies stranded on a small islet in the Ravi River, as floodwaters continued to rise.

A video of the rescue operation quickly went viral on social media, drawing admiration for the team's quick thinking and compassion.

The operation began when citizens at the Saggian Ravi Bridge flood relief camp noticed unusual movement on a small mound in the middle of the river. Concerned, they alerted the Rescue 1122 team, prompting a swift response.

A boat was immediately dispatched to investigate the situation.

Farooq Ahmed, a spokesperson for Punjab Rescue 1122, explained, “As seen in the video, the mound was barely above water. When our team reached the spot, we found three puppies stranded and waiting to be rescued. We carefully lifted them onto the boat and brought them to safety before handing them over to nearby residents.”

The stretch of the Ravi River typically remains dry, allowing stray animals to roam freely on the riverbed. However, during heavy rains or when water is released from upstream, this area floods, trapping animals that have nowhere to go.

Rescue 1122 has deployed 650 boats across Punjab as part of ongoing rescue efforts.

On Thursday alone, more than 30,000 people were rescued from flood-affected areas. The operation continues round the clock to provide relief.

Social media users have praised the team's dedication, expressing gratitude for their selflessness and commitment to saving not just people, but animals in distress as well.
