The suspected murderer of TikToker Sana Yousaf recorded a confessional statement before a judicial magistrte on Tuesday.
Magistrate Saad Nazir recorded the statement of the suspect under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
The suspect, Omar Hayat, admitted that he murdered the social media influencer after she refused to meet him.
He said he had invited Sana Yusuf to meet for the first time and waited all day, only for her to tell him to go back. He claimed he had brought her a gift for her birthday, which she declined to accept.
The suspect further stated that on June 2, Sana called him again for a meeting but did not see him when he showed up. He said that he was “deeply upset” by her repeated refusals and, in a fit of rage, went to her home and shot her dead.
The murder took place on June 3 at Sana Yusuf’s residence in Islamabad, where Hayat, a resident of Faisalabad, allegedly entered and fatally shot the teenager. He was later arrested by Islamabad police.
Inspector General of Police Ali Nasir Rizvi said the preliminary investigation suggested the motive behind the killing was Sana’s rejection of a friendship proposal.
A day earlier, an Islamabad court extended Omar Hayat’s physical remand by three more days to allow for further investigation.
The case has sparked outrage online, with many demanding stronger protections for women and public figures, particularly those active on digital platforms.
