Various parts of Pakistan are currently experiencing an intense heatwave, with temperatures in Punjab and both upper and central Sindh surpassing 42°C.

The plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan are also facing extreme heat conditions.

According to the Meteorological Department, the weather is expected to remain hot and dry across most regions of the country over the next 24 hours.

The department has forecast a further rise in temperatures, with the heatwave likely to persist until at least June 12. Several districts in Punjab and Balochistan may experience temperatures up to 6°C higher than average for this time of year.

In light of the extreme heat, the Meteorological Department has issued an alert, urging precautionary measures, particularly for children, the elderly, and those with health conditions.

Experts warn that the ongoing heatwave could continue for several more days.

Health authorities and district administrations have been directed to prepare emergency response plans. Discussions are also underway to establish special heatstroke prevention units in hospitals to cope with potential health emergencies.

In Nawabshah, Bahawalnagar, and Rahim Yar Khan, temperatures reached 47°C, while Dera Ismail Khan and Sukkur recorded 46°C
