Three students involved in an incident of misbehaviour and harassment of a female lecturer at Islamia College Peshawar have been suspended for two weeks.
According to a notification issued by the administration, the preliminary report of the disciplinary committee states that three students are involved in the incident, and all three have been barred from entering the university until the committee reaches a final decision.
The Teaching Staff Association said that the strike has been postponed until the final decision of the disciplinary committee, and all academic activities will remain resumed until 8 June.
In Islamia College Peshawar, female teacher Gul Rukh was allegedly misbehaved with and harassed by some students during a class test, after which she wrote a letter to the Vice Chancellor of Islamia College.
In the letter, the female teacher requested disciplinary action against the involved disruptive students. She stated that the students threatened her with political connections for not awarding passing grades.
She further alleged that on 12 May at 11 a.m., during a test in the second semester Botany class, half of the male students stood up and refused to take the test, while also intimidating other students.
She wrote that the students tore up the exam papers and threw them at her face, then left the classroom and locked her and other female students inside the room.
She added that she continued the test with the remaining students, but later the same students returned with more boys, entered the classroom, surrounded her, and continued to issue threats.
The teacher also stated that when she left the class, the students locked the department gate and continued pressuring her to award passing marks, while also threatening her with political influence.
In response to the alleged harassment incident, the Teaching Staff Association demanded immediate action against the involved students, warning that if their demands were not met, they would boycott teaching activities.
