Two men were shot dead and another was injured in a suspected ‘honour’-related attack in Karachi’s Manghopir area on Monday, police said.
According to Manghopir Station House Officer (SHO) Imran Ahmed Khan, the primary victim was allegedly in a relationship with a woman from their native town in Bolan district, Balochistan.
The couple had reportedly arrived in Karachi four days earlier and were staying with the man’s relatives near Gulshan Chowk in Mohammed Khan Colony.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the woman’s brother, accompanied by other relatives, tracked the couple down and opened fire. The attack resulted in the deaths of 25-year-old Shaman and 30-year-old Ishaq Balach, a maternal uncle of the man. Another uncle, 35-year-old Habibullah, was injured.
The SHO said that the suspects took the woman back to Balochistan after killing the two men.
He added that the victims’ bodies and the injured were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities. He said the police were awaiting a formal complaint from the victims’ family to register a case and begin legal proceedings.
This incident follows a similar case last month in Karachi’s Ittehad Town, where two men were killed and one injured in what police also described as an ‘honour’ killing.
In a separate case in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a young man was murdered under similar circumstances, according to an FIR.
Data compiled by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) indicates that ‘honour’ killings remain a pervasive issue. From January to November 2024, at least 346 individuals were killed in such incidents across the country, with Sindh and Punjab recording particularly high numbers.
