A police officer in Karachi has been suspended following the emergence of a video that allegedly depicts him arranging bribes for dance parties and other illicit activities.
Sources indicate that the suspended officer, identified as Head Moharar Hamraz, stationed at Darakhshan Police Station, can be heard in the video discussing fees for various unlawful activities, including dance parties at guest houses and illegal tea cafes.
He purportedly requested between Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 40,000 weekly from each tea cafe operating within the jurisdiction of the police station.
The footage also reveals Hamraz offering a reduced rate of Rs. 25,000 for new establishments, asserting that as long as they paid the bribe, they would be allowed to operate without interference.
In response to the video's release, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police South Asad Raza took swift action, instructing the Superintendent of Police (SP) Investigation South to suspend Hamraz.
In a related incident in Lahore, a customs officer was also suspended after a video surfaced showing him soliciting a bribe from a passenger. In that footage, the customs officer, named Imran, is seen demanding a bribe from a traveler at Lahore airport.
