Two prominent players, Babar Azam and Agha Salman, have seen a decline in their positions in the latest ICC Test Player Rankings.
This drop comes during a challenging period for Pakistan cricket, where the team has faced a series of tough performances.
Babar Azam, Pakistan’s captain and star batter, has slipped one spot in the ICC Test Batting Rankings. The right-handed batsman, who was previously ranked 17th, has now dropped to 18th place with 670 rating points. Although the fall is not dramatic, it marks a concerning trend for a player known for his consistency and reliability. This dip in his ranking follows a series of underwhelming performances in recent matches, where Azam has failed to meet the high standards he is usually known for.
Meanwhile, all-rounder Agha Salman has experienced a more significant drop in the rankings. He has fallen from 17th to 20th place in the ICC Test Batting Rankings, accumulating 662 rating points. Salman, who has shown moments of brilliance, has struggled with consistency, which has affected his position in the rankings.
These setbacks for Babar Azam and Agha Salman come at a time when Pakistan’s cricket team is facing challenges on the field. The team’s performances have not been as expected, and these drops in the rankings highlight the ongoing struggles.
India’s Rise in ICC Test Rankings
The latest ICC Test rankings also show a strong rise for Indian players. Yashasvi Jaiswal has achieved a career-high second place in the Test Batting Rankings after his stellar 161-run performance in the Perth Test. His remarkable knock has propelled him ahead of established players, showcasing his growing impact in international cricket.
Additionally, Virat Kohli’s unbeaten century in India’s ongoing Test series against Australia has moved him up to 13th place in the Test Batting Rankings, further cementing his place among the top batsmen in the world.
In the bowling rankings, India’s Jasprit Bumrah has reclaimed the number one spot in the ICC Test Bowler Rankings. Bumrah’s rise to the top comes after a standout performance in the Perth Test against Australia, where he overtook South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada, who previously held the top position. This marks a significant achievement for Bumrah, who has been in excellent form for India in the Test format.
