Pakistani Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem urged the government to improve basic living conditions in his village and establish a university in Mian Channu to provide better educational opportunities for girls.
Nadeem returned to a hero’s welcome on Sunday and headed to his hometown in Mian Channu where he spoke to the media and expressed gratitude to the government for organising youth festivals that provided him a platform to showcase his talent.
The javelin star said his village needed proper roads and electricity. He also requested the government to supply natural gas to the area, adding, "This would bring immense relief and happiness to the people of my village."
“I wish a university could be established in Mian Channu because girls from my village have to travel for an hour to Multan for their education,” he noted.
Nadeem also expressed his intention to build a playground in the village and sought the government's support for the project.
He thanked his coaches and the Pakistan Sports Board for their support, as well as the public for celebrating his remarkable victory with such joy and enthusiasm.
In an interview, the 27-year-old Olympian said that after his historic achievement, he first called his mother and spoke to the family and everyone was overjoyed at his extraordinary feat.
President Asif Ali Zardari announced to honour Arshad Nadeem with Hilal-e-Imtiaz for his exceptional achievement in securing the country's first Olympic gold medal in four decades.
The athlete shattered the Olympic record with a monumental 92.97-meter throw in the men's javelin throw event at the Paris Olympics 2024.
