India skipper Suryakumar Yadav has been penalised by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching its code of conduct following his post-match comments after the Asia Cup group stage fixture against Pakistan on September 14.
He has been fined 30 per cent of his match fee. Match referee Richie Richardson ruled that Yadav’s remarks, seen as an indirect reference to ongoing military tensions between the two neighbours, crossed acceptable boundaries.
According to Indian media reports, Yadav pleaded not guilty during the hearing, but his defence was dismissed. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has since appealed the decision.

The case stemmed from a complaint filed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which objected to Yadav dedicating India’s seven-wicket victory to the armed forces involved in Operation Sindoor and expressing solidarity with the families of victims of the Pahalgam attack.
The PCB described the comments as “political” and outside the spirit of the game. Strains between the two sides have been evident throughout the tournament.
India had earlier refused the customary handshake with Pakistan’s players at the toss.
