Pakistan fast bowler Naseem Shah expressed his disappointment over former cricketers criticising young players' private lives, including their appearance in advertisements, instead of focusing on analysing their performances.
In a recent interview, Naseem stated that while it is expected for fans to discuss cricketers’ personal lives, former players, who have spent 10 to 15 years in the sport, should focus on evaluating performances rather than making personal remarks.
He emphasised that former cricketers should provide insights into the game, such as advising on bowling techniques, rather than commenting on a player's hairstyle, haircut, or advertisements, which leads to unnecessary scrutiny of their private lives.
“We look up to them as legends. Should we also start ignoring them because they focus on personal matters instead of cricket?” he questioned.
The fast bowler added that if an ex-cricketer shares constructive criticism, such as suggesting how to bowl on a particular pitch, players would be eager to listen and learn.
However, he found it perplexing that former players, who have an in-depth understanding of the game, choose to criticise personal aspects instead of providing meaningful cricketing insights.
