Pakistan began their FIH Pro League campaign with a 5–2 defeat against defending champions the Netherlands in Argentina on Wednesday. The match, played at the Santiago Hockey Stadium, saw Pakistan take an early lead but lose momentum as the Dutch side took control in the later stages.
Pakistan opened the scoring in the ninth minute when Hanan Shahid found the net to give his side the advantage. The Netherlands equalised three minutes later and then pulled ahead 2–1 in the 15th minute.
In the 18th minute, Sufyan Khan converted a penalty corner to level the match at 2–2. However, the Netherlands responded strongly, adding three more goals to seal a convincing 5–2 victory.
