The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made a massive investment in its domestic cricket structure, offering a record monthly salary of Rs5 million to newly appointed mentors for the Champions Cup, sources said on Thursday.

The lucrative deal will be given to top cricketing minds, including Waqar Younis, Misbah-ul-Haq, Shoaib Malik, Sarfaraz Ahmed, and Saqlain Mushtaq.

The legends will not only guide their respective teams but also serve as advisors, providing valuable insights to the board on player form and fitness.

The mentors will be supported by a 10-member staff, comprising a head coach, batting coach, bowling coach, and fielding coach, who will be stationed in major cities like Lahore, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Multan, and Karachi.

The team of experts will work closely with the mentors to ensure the success of their teams.

The first assignment for the mentors will be the Champions One-Day Cup, scheduled to take place at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad from September 12 to 29.

The tournament is expected to be a game-changer, featuring the best cricketers from across the country in a single-league competition.

The event also marks the return of men's senior competitive cricket to Faisalabad after nearly two years.

Earlier, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi announced "five exceptional champions as mentors for the Champions Cup teams."

"These individuals bring a wealth of cricketing experience, knowledge and expertise, which, combined with their passion for the game we all love, will help the Pakistan Cricket Board identify, develop and nurture the next generation of cricketers across all formats," he said in a statement.

"This initiative will not only benefit the Pakistan men's cricket team but also help bridge the gap between domestic and international cricket."

Naqvi informed that the mentors will guide strategic planning and team-building processes.

"The PCB is committed to strengthening Pakistan's cricket through a robust domestic structure that offers a clear and competitive pathway for all cricketers. The most talented and skilled players will advance through the ranks to represent Pakistan at the highest level," Naqvi concluded.
