International cricket is set to return to Peshawar’s Arbab Niaz Stadium after nearly two decades, with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirming that two matches of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) will be held at the newly renovated venue.

The last international match in Peshawar took place in 2006, when Pakistan played against India.

However, with the efforts of Peshawar Zalmi and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government, the PCB has agreed to bring the PSL to the city.

Due to the absence of floodlights, the matches will be held during the daytime.

In addition to the PSL matches, the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Champions Trophy will also make a stop in Peshawar, with the trophy being displayed at the Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium on Thursday.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Syed Fakhar Jahan, announced that the construction work at the stadium would be completed by February 15.

He visited the stadium alongside Peshawar Zalmi’s Director Mohammad Akram, officials from the sports department, and contractors.

Jahan assured that the provincial government would continue its efforts to host PSL matches in Peshawar next year and confirmed that funding would not be an obstacle for the project.
