Pakistan's prominent batsman Babar Azam has alleviated concerns regarding any pressure he may be feeling in the lead-up to the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled from February 19 to March 9.

In spite of facing criticism for his recent performances, the 30-year-old maintains a strong sense of confidence and is determined to make a notable contribution during the tournament.

Babar, who has achieved 31 international centuries, has not reached the three-figure mark since his impressive 151-run innings against Nepal in the ACC Men’s Asia Cup in August 2023.

His fluctuating performances across various formats have drawn scrutiny, particularly following his elevation to the opener's position in the recently concluded tri-nation ODI series.

Unfortunately, this new role has not yet produced favorable outcomes, as Babar recorded modest scores of 10, 23, and 29 in his last three ODI appearances.

The decision to promote Babar in the batting order was met with skepticism from several former and current cricketers, who deemed the move "unjust."

Nevertheless, the right-handed batsman remains undeterred by external criticism, asserting that his focus is on delivering for his team rather than reflecting on previous shortcomings.

“I do not feel any pressure. I am prepared for a fresh start by moving on from the past,” Babar stated. “It is encouraging to know that the team is counting on me, and I strive to perform and contribute in every match.”

Having been part of Pakistan’s historic Champions Trophy-winning team in 2017, Babar reminisced about the unforgettable experiences from that tournament.

“Some of the best memories from 2017 include Fakhar’s century, Amir’s exceptional bowling, and the climactic moments of the final against India,” he recalled.

Recognizing that the team has undergone significant changes over the past eight years, Babar highlighted that the team's goal remains consistent.

“Much has changed since our Champions Trophy triumph in 2017, with only a handful of players from that squad still present, but our objective continues to be the same,” he concluded.
