Pakistan spinner Noman Ali broke a 37-year-old record previously held by legendary leg-spinner Abdul Qadir during the opening Test against South Africa at Gaddafi Stadium.

Ali played a key role in Pakistan’s 93-run victory, helping the team defend a target of 277 as South Africa were bowled out for 183 in the second innings.

He took eight wickets in the second innings alongside Shaheen Shah Afridi, who contributed with pace and movement, and claimed six wickets in the first innings, marking his third ten-wicket haul in a Test match.

The 39-year-old left-arm spinner has now taken 46 wickets in his last five Tests, surpassing Qadir’s record of 44 wickets between his 48th and 52nd Tests in the 1987–88 season.

Noman Ali’s consistent performances over the past year have made him the most successful spinner globally, with notable contributions including 10 wickets against South Africa in Lahore, 16 wickets in the two-match series against the West Indies, and 20 wickets during the home series against England.
