Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board Mohsin Naqvi has shared insights on Babar Azam’s recent resignation as the captain of Pakistan’s white-ball cricket team.
Azam stepped down last week, citing a heavy workload and a desire to focus more on his batting.
When asked about the process of selecting a new captain, PCB chairman Naqvi said that he has instructed the selection committee to make the decision carefully, given the importance of the role.
He said, “The captain’s position is important, and I’ve told them to take a decision after careful consideration.”
This marks the second time Babar Azam has relinquished the captaincy. His first tenure ended in November 2023 after Pakistan's underwhelming performance at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in India.
Fans and experts alike are now waiting to see who will be chosen to lead the team forward.
Babar Azam was under criticism for his batting prformance and captaincy skills in the recent past.
In a statement on social media, Babar addressed his fans: "I have decided to resign as captain of the Pakistan men’s cricket team, effective as of my notification to the PCB and Team Management last month. It’s been an honor to lead this team, but it’s time for me to step down and focus on my playing role."
