In a strategic move ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that the upcoming tri-nation ODI series featuring Pakistan, New Zealand, and South Africa will be held in Lahore and Karachi instead of Multan. The two iconic venues, Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and National Bank Stadium in Karachi, have undergone extensive upgrades to enhance the match experience for both players and fans.
Gaddafi Stadium, one of Pakistan’s most prestigious cricket venues, has received a major facelift, boosting its capacity to 35,000 spectators. The renovation includes upgraded seating, improved fan facilities, and a significant overhaul of broadcast infrastructure.
To ensure high-quality broadcasts, the stadium has been fitted with 480 advanced LED lights and two massive digital replay screens, which will be fully operational in time for the matches. A new hospitality enclosure for players and officials is also under construction, with plans for completion by January 25. The stadium is scheduled to be inaugurated later this month.
Similarly, National Bank Stadium in Karachi has been modernized with 350 LED lights to enhance visibility during global broadcasts.
Additional seating for 5,000 spectators has been added, along with a newly upgraded hospitality area at the University End. These improvements aim to provide a world-class viewing experience for fans while elevating the playing conditions for the athletes.
Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, while not hosting the tri-series, is also undergoing smaller-scale updates to prepare for future international events. These include the installation of 10,000 new seats and enhancements to hospitality boxes, along with the addition of two digital replay screens.
With over 250 workers engaged in the ongoing upgrades, the PCB is on track to meet the January 25 deadline for completion. The upgrades at Gaddafi and National Bank Stadiums will be pivotal in hosting key fixtures of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, ensuring that both venues meet the highest international standards.
Additionally, the PCB has assured that curators, under the leadership of Tony Hemming, are maintaining the playing surfaces at all three venues, ensuring excellent playing conditions for the upcoming matches. This is part of the board’s broader commitment to delivering world-class cricketing experiences and ensuring that Pakistan’s stadiums are ready to host major international events.
