Pakistani mountaineer Salman Atique has successfully reached the summit of Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak.
He reached the 8,848 metre summit at 11:49am today, becoming the 14th Pakistani to conquer Mount Everest.
Based in Islamabad, Salman had also climbed Nepal’s Mount Manaslu last year, adding another remarkable achievement to his mountaineering journey.
The previous single-day record stood at 223 successful summits, set in 2019, before being surpassed in this latest climbing season.
All climbers used the Nepal side route to complete the climb after authorities closed the Chinese route for the season.
The surge in successful summits highlights a busy climbing period on Everest, which has seen increased traffic during favourable weather conditions.
Nepal has also announced plans to introduce stricter regulations and higher fees for climbers seeking permits to attempt the world’s tallest mountain, in an effort to manage overcrowding and improve safety standards.
