Shahid Afridi slams online trolls demanding to boycott his brands

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Khan Afridi lashed out at online trolls, who are demanding to boycott cricketer's brands for "no reason".

The ex-skipper landed into hot water after an old video of Afridi resurfaced on the microblogging site X.

In the video, the 47-year-old cricketer could be seen talking about the no-confidence motion against former prime minister Imran Khan, his promises before coming to power in 2018 and his government's overall performance. 

The video was from 2022 when Afridi was in London to raise funds for his charitable organisation. 

 As soon as the video circulated again, Imran Khan's supporters and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's social media started bashing the Pakistani star.

The claim was also confirmed by PTI leaders Sher Afzal Marwat and Ali Muhammad Khan, who blamed their party's social media team for starting a propaganda campaign against Afridi.

Some social media users even launched a boycott campaign against the former power-hitter's brands, which he used to fund his charitable social entity, Hope Not Out.

Reacting to boycott calls, Afridi said: "Whatever I share in these brands is spent on girls' education, clean water wells in different areas, hospitals, welfare of the elderly and distribution of ration to the deserving."

The cricketer stressed that he never took a single penny from the projects, but he had "provided all kinds of resources to run them".

"The political ignorance and false propaganda of you and people like you cannot stop me from delivering the rights to the needy. My mission will continue through my foundation, InshaAllah [God willing]," he concluded.
