Pakistan’s Super Eight campaign at the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 began with a setback after their opening fixture against New Zealand was abandoned due to persistent rain in Colombo.

The match at the R. Premadasa Stadium was called off without a ball being bowled. Rain continued even after the toss, and with no reserve day scheduled for the contest, officials declared a no-result. Both teams were awarded one point each.

The washout leaves Pakistan with one point from their first Super Eight match. They now have two remaining fixtures in the stage, against England and Sri Lanka, and their qualification prospects remain within reach.

If Pakistan win both of their remaining matches, they will finish on five points, a total that would significantly strengthen their chances of advancing to the semi-finals.

A single win would take them to three points, in which case their progression would depend on other results and net run rate.
