At least 85 people were killed in a tragic crash occurred at Muan International Airport in South Korea on Sunday morning involving a Boeing 737-800 operated by Jeju Air.

The aircraft, which had been flying from Bangkok to Muan, crashed while attempting to land at the airport, and the situation remains dire with the likelihood of significant casualties.

The plane was carrying 181 people, including 175 passengers and six crew members.

A harrowing video shows the plane skidding off the runway and crashing into a wall. The impact caused the aircraft to burst into flames almost immediately, with black smoke rising into the sky.

The plane appeared to attempt a belly landing, with the landing gear not fully extended, just seconds before the crash.

Early reports suggest that 179 people onboard. Rescue operations are still underway, with emergency services working to evacuate passengers, particularly from the rear of the plane.

Local authorities, including 32 fire trucks and dozens of firefighters, responded quickly to the crash site. South Korea's acting President, Choi Sang-Mok, has ordered an all-out effort to rescue survivors and ensure the safety of the remaining passengers.

Initial investigations suggest that the crash may have been caused by a bird strike, which led to a malfunction in the landing gear, preventing the aircraft from landing safely.

The investigation is ongoing, and the focus remains on rescue and recovery efforts at the crash site. This is a developing story, and authorities are providing updates as new information becomes available.
