The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Madhavi Latha, who sparked outrage by shooting a symbolic arrow at a mosque during her election campaign, was defeated by All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President Asaduddin Owaisi.

Former Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's hardliner was defeated in the Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency.

According to official results announced by the Election Commission of India, Owaisi secured 6,61,981 votes against Latha’s 3,23,894.

She lost to the four-time MP by a staggering 330,000-vote margin.

Out of 543 Lok Sabha seats, Modi's Hindu nationalist party bagged 240 constituencies, while the Indian National Congress (INC) bagged 99 seats.

The opposition INDIA alliance led by Rahul Gandhi's INC, won 230 seats in the six-week-long elections.

The elections in India began on April 19 and concluded on June 1.

However, Modi is set to assume the office of prime minister for the third historic term.

Following the results, Modi addressed a charged crowd at party's headquarters in New Delhi.

"The blessings of the people for the third time after 10 years boosts our morale, gives new strength," he said.

“I am indebted to citizens for their love and blessings. The NDA is set to form a government for the third time. Citizens have expressed their absolute faith in the BJP-led NDA,” Modi added.
