The Champions Trophy victory celebrations in Madhya Pradesh, India, took a violent turn after a mob carried out a rally outside a mosque, burst firecrackers, and raised derogatory slogans, disrupting Tarawih prayers during Ramadan.
India defeated New Zealand in the Champions Trophy final on Sunday, winning by four wickets and claiming the tournament title for the third time, their first since 2013.
The incident occurred near Jama Masjid in Mhow town around 10:45 pm local time, when a large number of people took to the streets to celebrate the victory.

According to reports, tensions escalated as worshipers were disturbed during their prayers by the loud celebrations. When they stepped out of the mosque, the mob continued its festivities.
Subsequently, both groups engaged in slogan-chanting, and some Indian reports suggested that stone-pelting ensued, leading to clashes as the situation spiraled out of control.
Several vehicles and shops were vandalised during the unrest, while law enforcement arrived at the scene to restore order.

Local authorities later confirmed that the situation was under control and that investigations were underway to identify those responsible for the violence.
Meanwhile, the Imam of Jama Masjid, Mohammed Javed, spoke to the media, questioning whether the mob had obtained permission to carry out the procession.
He stated that firecrackers were thrown at the mosque, causing panic among worshipers. He also alleged that stones were hurled by the mob, prompting retaliatory actions from mosque-goers.
