Amidst the ruins and displacement, Gaza’s kind-hearted children in Shujayea offered water to thirsty passersby during the scorching weather.
Despite the scarcity of resources and a lack of water supply, young children took the initiative to provide water to the displaced people in the area.
A video of the children offering water was shared by Palestinian reporter Hossam Shbat.
The children told Hossam that they hail from the Zeytoun area and were displaced to Shujayea due to Israel’s military offensive. They are now living in a ruined building.
As men, women, and children are forcibly displaced and travel in the extreme heat without food, these generous children are offering them the vital resources of life as access to clean water has become a struggle.
The collapse of infrastructure due to Israeli airstrikes has left the sewage system non-functional, and people in Gaza struggle to find water for drinking, cooking, cleaning, and washing. This, combined with food insecurity, has left the lives of Gazans in a state of complete misery.
According to the UN, “More than 495,000 people across the besieged Palestinian territory are facing catastrophic food insecurity.”
“More than 20 percent of people reported going entire days and nights without eating. Overall, about 96 percent of the population will continue to face high levels of acute food insecurity until September,” it added.
Water supplies in Gaza come from multiple sources, including a pipeline from Israel, desalination plants on the Mediterranean Sea, and wells.
However, the Israeli occupation army has cut off these resources, along with the electricity that powers water and sewage plants.
