Donald Trump, the US President-elect, is hopeful that a ceasefire agreement in Gaza can be reached by the end of this week.
This comes as the Biden and incoming Trump administrations are working together to secure a deal between Israel and Hamas, focusing on hostages, troop withdrawals, and peace talks.
The proposed framework for the agreement includes a hostage-prisoner exchange, a six-week ceasefire, and further negotiations.
Hamas would release 33 Israeli hostages, and Israel would implement limited troop withdrawals from Gaza during the ceasefire period. In return, Israel is discussing the release of over 1,000 Palestinian detainees.
While there are challenges and opposition to the deal, significant progress is being made. Israel's top security officials have travelled to Qatar for negotiations, and the International Committee of the Red Cross is preparing for a potential exchange.
The Israeli media reported that a breakthrough in the ongoing negotiations in Qatar for a ceasefire in Gaza had been achieved, but it has not been revealed officially. However, important points of the deal surfaced in the media, which would be implemented in three phases.
Israeli media claimed in a report that a Gaza ceasefire agreement is close and that the agreement will be implemented in three phases.
According to the report, the first phase of the deal proposed the release of 33 Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinians, and Israel will release 50 for each female soldier hostage and 30 Palestinians for the remaining hostages.
