The FBI has issued a warning about two fake videos spreading false information about terror threats and voter fraud.
These videos are part of a larger effort to undermine the democratic process and erode trust in the electoral system.
One video claims to be from the FBI, citing a high terror threat and urging Americans to "vote remotely," while the other includes a fake press release alleging rigged voting among inmates in five prisons.
Federal, state, and local officials have been warning Americans about attempts to undermine the election with misinformation, advising voters to seek credible information from reliable sources. As of 11 a.m. U.S. Eastern Time, there was little evidence of widespread disruption.
Cait Conley, a senior Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency official, stated that CISA is not tracking any national incidents impacting election infrastructure security, but warned that foreign actors may try to create the illusion of disruptions.
U.S. intelligence agencies expect overseas influence operations to intensify, particularly in seven battleground states: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
