Irish parliamentarian Thomas Gould broke down in tears during his speech in parliament on the day Ireland officially recognised Palestine as a state, joining Norway and Spain in this decision.
Several members of the Irish parliament delivered speeches and condemned the relentless bombardment that has devastated the region, claiming thousands of innocent lives.
In his speech, Thomas Gould vehemently criticised the Israeli government for its blatant use of military force in Gaza, which has annihilated the enclave’s infrastructure and resulted in the tragic deaths of children.
“When you look at the photographs and the pictures and the videos that come from there and you hear the screams of people – screaming as the Israeli government burned men, women and children alive,” he said.

He furthered on, “They burned them alive and the world stands by while 15,000 children are being slaughtered. 35,000 men, women and children.”
“It is unbelievable the genocide that’s happening… a child with no head, a child with no head and the Israeli government say that it’s a mistake, a mistake," the lawmaker broke down in tears.
“I hope Benjamin Netanyahu burns in hell the same way the children and their families burned," he continued.
“I hope he and his generals and the far right government in Israel, that when their god finally brings him to their resting place, that he deserves to burn in hell, because what is happening now not alone is it apartheid, not alone is it an atrocity and war crime... It's just horrific. It’s just horrific what they’re doing," Gould added.
“Where is their soul? Where is the soul of the Israeli people that allows their government to do this to children? Where is their humanity?" he bemoaned.
He questioned how Israelis, as Jewish people who have also endured immense suffering, could allow such actions to happen to others.
Thomas Gould argued that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dehumanised Palestinians. However, he emphasised that by recognising the state of Palestine, Ireland affirmed that Palestinians are "human beings just like every one of us."
