India becomes world's most unsafe country for women, including tourists

India has emerged as the most unsafe country for both local and foreign women, with a shocking rise in sexual violence under Prime Minister Modi's administration.

On March 2, 2024, a 28-year-old Spanish tourist was gang-raped in the state of Jharkhand, drawing global media attention and raising serious concerns about women’s safety in India.

According to India’s National Crime Records Bureau, 25 cases of sexual assault against foreign tourists were reported in 2022. Reports indicate that in Modi's India, a woman is raped every 16 minutes, but many such crimes go unreported or unregistered.

The problem extends to India’s armed forces, with several cases of sexual harassment and rape involving female officers coming to light. In September 2024, a female Air Force officer accused a wing commander at Srinagar Air Force Station of rape, alleging mishandling of her complaint by authorities.

Similarly, an Army colonel in Kanpur was accused of raping a friend's wife before going into hiding. Many cases gain public attention through social media, highlighting systemic negligence and a culture of silence in the military.

In occupied Kashmir, sexual violence has been used as a weapon of war by Indian security forces.

Reports document over 15,000 cases of mass rapes and sexual violence by Indian troops since January 1989, including the infamous 1991 Kunan Poshpora incident, where 150 women were gang-raped by security personnel.

These statistics and incidents underscore not only the deep-rooted rape culture in India but also a moral decline that demands urgent attention and reform.
